How to Explain Blockchain to Your Grandmother

How to Explain Blockchain to Your Grandmother

It has long been a way of the world for as long as I can remember the relationship between Grandparents and a Grandchild is an amazing bond. Grandparents always seemed to have a patience and understanding that was much more relatable than even the parent themselves. They seemed to always understand. This highlights the magnitude of the digital skills gap between our youth and our elders. Blockchain technology has the potential to either increase or eliminates this gap.

The Blockchain is a groundbreaking technology that millennials are falling in love with at first sight, while older generations are struggling to understand. Blockchain’s groundbreaking technology has unveiled endless possibilities for our society through its decentralized features, which bring money back to its owner, instead of being filtered through the hands of the wealthiest families.

Blockchain is the technology that bitcoin is built on, but it has much more potential than just being a cryptocurrency. Blockchain gives the power back to the people by decentralizing all data

Even if you are still not entirely clear about what blockchain is, your Nanna has probably heard about it. This means that the topic has been dominating the headlines in the news for quite some time now. Blockchain allows the world to connect and transact honestly within, but many Americans still do not have a full grasp of its implications. This is certainly true for senior citizens, many of which are still not entirely clear about what blockchain technology entails. Blockchain is deemed to be the next big thing since the internet itself and has already disrupted several industries (finance, healthcare…). But things like cryptocurrency or Blockchain might sound like a foreign language to some seniors, who have only held a bank account, never a personal wallet.

However, Blockchain is not all about Bitcoin. Blockchain has the potential to revolutionize many industries and life applications and will have an important impact on the lives of all the citizens of the globe, regardless of age or background. Blockchain can be summed up as a decentralized ledger that records transactions in an immutable way without requiring an intermediary, such as a bank or a government. Blockchain is often associated with cryptocurrency, as the terms are frequently used interchangeably, but Blockchain itself can be applied to other fields as well. Such as document management and family history records. Blockchain is not only about money, it’s also about digital skills and Blockchain can be used to help your family and seniors become more digitized in their everyday activities. On the other hand, Blockchain has the potential to bring together generations that often talk past each other, such as millennials and their grandparents who may not understand what Blockchain is or how it works. Blockchain has the capacity to bring disparate groups of people together by helping them embrace a digital future and Blockchain is one of many digital skills that can be learned at STEAM Revolution LLC.

Through our partnerships with the Government Blockchain Association and Simba chain, we plan to launch our Blockchain 101 Curriculum that is designed to be the bridge between the generations so that the special relationship between grandparents and grandchildren can once again spark a new revolution in learning.
